How to convert DXF to PDF
DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) is a CAD file format developed by Autodesk for sharing 2D and 3D drawings between AutoCAD and other engineering software. DXF files require CAD software to open, which makes sharing technical drawings with clients or colleagues difficult. Converting to PDF produces a universally viewable document that looks the same on any device.
BoltConverter renders DXF files on its server and exports the drawing as a PDF. Lines, dimensions, and text from the drawing are preserved in the output. This is useful for sharing floor plans, mechanical drawings, and schematics with people who do not have CAD software.
Upload your DXF file
Click the upload area or drag your .dxf file onto the page.
Convert to PDF
The server renders the CAD drawing to PDF format. Lines, text, and dimensions are included.
Download the result
Save the PDF. It can be opened in any PDF viewer without CAD software.
Frequently asked questions
Will all the layers in my DXF be visible in the PDF?
The PDF renders the visible state of the drawing. Layers that are turned off in the DXF may not appear. Enable all desired layers before exporting.
Can I convert 3D DXF files?
The converter handles standard 2D DXF drawings. Complex 3D models may not render as expected, as the PDF format is inherently 2D.
Are dimensions and annotations included?
Yes. Text, dimension lines, and annotation objects are rendered as part of the drawing in the PDF output.
Do I need AutoCAD to convert?
No. BoltConverter processes the file on its servers. No CAD software is required on your side.
Why does my converted PDF look different from the screen view?
This can happen if the DXF uses external references (XREFs) or custom fonts that the converter does not have. Self-contained DXF files with standard fonts convert most accurately.
