Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

BoltConverter is an online file conversion service available at boltconverter.com. References to "we", "us", or "our" in this policy refer to the operator of that service.

2. Information we process

2.1 Files you convert

Client-side conversions (images and audio) — formats including HEIC, PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF, BMP, GIF, TIFF, MP3, WAV, and M4A are converted entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly. No file data is transmitted to our servers. Your file exists only in your browser's memory for the duration of the conversion and is then available for local download.

Server-side conversions (documents and video) — formats including PDF, Word (.docx/.doc), Excel, PowerPoint, EPUB, and video files require server-side processing. When you submit such a file:

• The file is transmitted over an encrypted HTTPS connection to our conversion server.
• It is processed in an isolated, ephemeral container.
• The converted output is returned directly to your browser.
• The file is deleted from server memory immediately after the response is sent. We do not write files to persistent disk storage.

We do not read, scan, analyse, or share the contents of any file you convert.

2.2 Log data

When your browser makes a request to our servers, standard web server logs are generated. These may include your IP address (or a partial IP address), browser type, referring URL, and the date and time of the request. We retain server logs for up to 30 days for operational purposes (debugging, abuse prevention, capacity planning). Logs do not include file contents.

2.3 Cookies and local storage

We do not set first-party tracking cookies. We use browser local storage only to preserve user preferences (for example, dark-mode preference if implemented). Third-party services — specifically advertising networks — may set their own cookies. See section 4 (Advertising) for details.

3. How we use information

We use the information described above solely to:

• Provide the conversion service you requested.
• Operate, maintain, and improve the website.
• Detect and prevent abuse, spam, or malicious use.
• Comply with legal obligations where required.

We do not use your file contents for any purpose other than performing the conversion you requested. We do not train machine-learning models on your files.

4. Advertising

BoltConverter is funded by advertising. Ads are served by third-party advertising networks. These networks may use cookies and similar technologies to show you ads that are relevant to your interests, based on your browsing behaviour across websites.

You can opt out of interest-based advertising by visiting youronlinechoices.com (EU) or optout.aboutads.info (US). Your browser's privacy settings also let you block or delete cookies.

5. Data sharing and third parties

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We may share limited information with:

• Infrastructure providers — our hosting runs on Cloudflare's global edge network. Cloudflare processes request data as a sub-processor; their privacy practices are described at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
• Advertising networks — as described in section 4 above.
• Law enforcement — only when required by a valid legal process and only to the extent the data we hold is responsive to that process (which, given our minimal data retention, is very limited).

6. Data retention

• Files: not retained. See section 2.1.
• Server logs: up to 30 days, then deleted.
• Local storage preferences: stored in your browser until you clear your browser data.

7. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal data we hold about you. Because we retain minimal data, most requests can be fulfilled simply by clearing your browser cache and cookies. For any other request, contact us at the address in section 9.

If you are in the European Economic Area or UK, you may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

8. Children

BoltConverter is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
