How to convert WEBP to JPEG
WebP is a modern image format that is more efficient than JPEG for most photographic content, but it is not accepted everywhere. Older applications, some email clients, certain CMS uploads, and many photo printing services require JPEG. Converting WebP to JPEG gives you the universal compatibility of JPEG at the cost of a slightly larger file. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly, so your images never leave your device.
JPEG and WebP are both lossy formats. Converting from WebP to JPEG means applying a second round of lossy compression. At a JPEG quality setting of 90 or higher, this second compression pass is perceptually invisible. At lower quality settings, additional artifacts may appear. For critical use like printing, use quality 92-95. For web sharing and email, quality 80-85 is a practical balance between file size and quality.
Upload your WebP file
Drop one or more .webp files. Batch mode converts multiple images in sequence.
Set JPEG quality
Adjust the quality slider. 85 is a good default. Higher values preserve more detail; lower values produce smaller files.
Convert in-browser
The WebAssembly WebP decoder and JPEG encoder run locally. No file upload occurs.
Download the JPEG files
Save the .jpg output. The file size comparison is shown to help you decide whether to adjust quality.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the JPEG larger than the original WebP?
WebP compression is more efficient than JPEG. For equivalent visual quality, WebP files are roughly 25-34% smaller than JPEG. Converting WebP to JPEG at the same quality setting naturally produces a larger file.
Does converting WebP to JPEG cause visible quality loss?
At quality 85 or higher, the difference from the additional compression pass is imperceptible to most viewers. The WebP was already lossy; the JPEG adds a small second compression step.
Does WebP support transparency and does JPEG?
WebP supports alpha transparency; JPEG does not. If your WebP has transparent areas, they will be filled with a white background in the JPEG output.
Can I convert animated WebP to JPEG?
JPEG does not support animation. Converting an animated WebP produces a JPEG from the first frame only. For animated output, convert to GIF or keep the WebP.
Is there a file size limit?
No server limit applies. Conversion is entirely local via WebAssembly. Very large WebP files may take a few seconds on slower hardware.
