How to convert WEBM to GIF
WebM is a modern open-source video format developed by Google for web streaming. It is used by YouTube and other video platforms for efficient streaming with VP8, VP9, or AV1 video. While WebM is efficient for streaming, it is not supported in many messaging apps, email clients, or sharing contexts where GIF works universally. Converting a short WebM clip to GIF makes it shareable anywhere.
BoltConverter converts WebM to GIF on its servers. The video frames are extracted and encoded as an animated GIF. Keep in mind that GIF files are much larger than WebM for the same content, so this conversion is best suited for short clips.
Upload your WebM file
Click the upload area or drag your .webm file onto the converter. Files up to 100 MB are accepted.
Conversion runs on the server
BoltConverter extracts frames from the WebM and encodes them as an animated GIF.
Wait for processing
GIF encoding takes a moment as each frame is processed. Longer clips take more time.
Download the GIF
Click Download to save the animated GIF. Your WebM is deleted from the server after conversion.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the GIF much larger than the WebM?
WebM uses modern video compression (VP8, VP9) that is extremely efficient. GIF uses a 1980s compression algorithm limited to 256 colors per frame. The same 5-second clip in WebM might be 200 KB but become a 5 MB GIF.
What is the maximum clip length recommended for GIF conversion?
Keep clips under 10 seconds for manageable GIF file sizes. Longer clips produce very large GIFs that are slow to load and send.
Will the GIF loop automatically?
Yes. The output GIF is set to loop continuously.
Is there a file size limit?
BoltConverter accepts WebM files up to 100 MB.
Are my files kept private?
Files are uploaded over HTTPS and deleted from the server immediately after conversion.
