How to convert VIDEO to GIF
Animated GIFs created from short video clips are one of the most widely shared formats on the internet. They play automatically, loop endlessly, and work everywhere images are accepted, with no video player needed. Converting a video clip to GIF is the standard way to make a reaction clip, tutorial loop, or product demo shareable.
BoltConverter converts video to GIF directly in your browser using WebAssembly. Your video is never uploaded to any server. The conversion samples frames from the video and encodes them as an animated GIF ready for download and sharing.
Upload your video clip
Click the upload area or drag a short video file (MP4, MOV, WEBM, etc.) onto the page.
GIF creation runs in the browser
WebAssembly samples frames from the video and encodes them as an animated GIF locally.
Download the GIF
Save the animated GIF. It loops automatically wherever it is displayed.
Frequently asked questions
How long should my video be for a good GIF?
Under 10 seconds is ideal. Beyond 15 to 20 seconds, GIF files become very large (often many megabytes) and may not load smoothly.
Why does the GIF look less colorful than the video?
GIF supports a maximum of 256 colors per frame. Videos with rich color gradients or natural scenes will show visible color reduction in the GIF output. This is a GIF format limitation.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. Your video stays on your device.
Why is the GIF so much larger than the video?
GIF is far less efficient than modern video codecs. H.264 MP4 compresses much better than GIF. A 5-second MP4 might be 300 KB while the same clip as GIF could be 3 to 5 MB.
Does the GIF include audio?
No. GIF is an image format and does not support audio. Only the video frames are included.
