How to convert SVG to EPS
EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) is a vector format used extensively in professional print workflows, older desktop publishing applications (QuarkXPress, older versions of InDesign), and image-setting equipment in commercial print shops. SVG is the modern web vector standard that most design tools now work in natively. Converting SVG to EPS lets you deliver artwork to print vendors or use files in legacy software that does not yet support SVG. The conversion runs in your browser using a WebAssembly-compiled vector processing library.
EPS is based on the PostScript page description language, which has been a print industry standard since the 1980s. Modern print workflows have largely moved to PDF, which PostScript printers now handle directly, but EPS remains required by some customers and systems. SVG paths, basic shapes, and text translate well to EPS. Complex SVG features like CSS filters, animations, and SVG masks may not have EPS equivalents and will be omitted or approximated.
Upload your SVG file
Drop a .svg file. Simple vector graphics with paths, basic shapes, and flat colors convert most accurately.
Set EPS version
EPS level 3 is the most compatible. Higher levels support more features but may not work in older equipment.
Convert in-browser
The vector processing library converts the SVG path data to PostScript commands locally. No upload occurs.
Download the EPS
Save the .eps file. Check the output in your target application (Illustrator, QuarkXPress, or your RIP software) to confirm correct rendering.
Frequently asked questions
Are SVG and EPS interchangeable?
No. Both are vector formats but they use different underlying languages (SVG uses XML; EPS uses PostScript). Most SVG features have EPS equivalents, but not all.
Will fonts convert from SVG to EPS?
Text in SVG can be converted to outlined paths in EPS (no font dependency) or kept as text (requires the same font to be installed at the destination). Outlining is safer for cross-system compatibility.
What SVG features do not convert to EPS?
CSS animations, JavaScript interactivity, SVG filters (blur, drop shadow), and clip paths may not have EPS equivalents. The converter will approximate or omit these.
Is EPS still used in professional printing?
Less than before. Modern workflows use PDF, which RIP processors handle directly. EPS persists in legacy systems, older software, and some customers who specify it for historical reasons.
Can I open the resulting EPS in Illustrator?
Yes. Adobe Illustrator has excellent EPS support and is the standard tool for opening, editing, and checking EPS files.
