MXF MP4

How to convert MXF to MP4

MXF (Material Exchange Format) is a professional container format used by broadcast cameras, television production systems, and news editing software. Sony XDCAM, Panasonic P2, and Avid DNxHD all output MXF files. While MXF is excellent for professional production workflows, it is not natively supported by consumer devices, social media platforms, or most web video players. Converting to MP4 makes the footage accessible for sharing and distribution.

BoltConverter converts MXF files to H.264 MP4 on its servers. The video and audio tracks are extracted and re-encoded for universal playback. This is particularly useful for distributing broadcast footage to clients or uploading finished productions to YouTube.

Upload your MXF file

Click the upload area or drag your .mxf file onto the converter. Files up to 100 MB are accepted.

Server processes the MXF

BoltConverter extracts the video and audio tracks and re-encodes them to H.264 MP4.

Wait for conversion

MXF files often contain high-bitrate video and may take a few minutes to process.

Download the MP4

Click Download to save the MP4 file. Your MXF is removed from the server after conversion.

Frequently asked questions

Which MXF camera formats are supported?

The converter supports common MXF operational patterns including OP1a and Op-Atom used by Sony XDCAM, Panasonic P2, and similar cameras. Edge cases with proprietary codec variants may not convert correctly.

Will I lose professional quality by converting to MP4?

MP4 with H.264 is suitable for distribution and web delivery. For further editing in professional NLEs, it is better to keep the original MXF and work natively. Convert to MP4 only for delivery and sharing.

Are multiple audio tracks included?

The converter includes the primary audio track pair from the MXF. Multiple discrete audio tracks common in broadcast MXF may not all be carried over.

Is there a file size limit?

BoltConverter accepts files up to 100 MB. Professional MXF camera files are often larger. For large files, a local tool like FFmpeg or Adobe Premiere is recommended.

Are my files kept private?

Files are uploaded over HTTPS and deleted from the server immediately after conversion.
