How to convert JFIF to PNG

JFIF (JPEG File Interchange Format) is technically just a JPEG with a specific header that identifies the file as conforming to the JFIF standard. Files with the .jfif extension are common downloads from web browsers, particularly in Windows. While JFIF files open in most image viewers, many apps and upload forms reject the .jfif extension and only accept .jpg or .png. Converting to PNG solves the compatibility problem while adding support for lossless quality and transparency.

BoltConverter converts JFIF to PNG entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. Your images never leave your device, and conversion is immediate without any upload queue.

Upload your JFIF file

Frequently asked questions

Is JFIF the same as JPG?

JFIF is technically a specific flavor of the JPEG standard. The image data inside a .jfif file is identical to a .jpg file. Renaming .jfif to .jpg often works without any conversion, but converting to PNG gives you a universally accepted lossless format.

Will converting JFIF to PNG improve quality?

PNG is lossless and JFIF is lossy, but the conversion cannot restore detail that was compressed away when the JFIF was created. The PNG will be larger but visually identical to the JFIF.

Does the PNG support transparency?

JFIF does not have transparency, so the PNG output will have a fully opaque background.

Are my images kept private?

Yes. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. No image data is sent to a server.

Can I convert multiple JFIF files at once?

Yes. Select or drag multiple .jfif files and all will be converted and available for download.
