How to convert FILE to JPEG

JPEG is the most universally supported photo format: virtually every device, app, website, and printer accepts it. If you have an image in a less common format (TIFF, BMP, RAW, WEBP, HEIC, or others) and need it as a JPEG, this converter handles the decoding and re-encoding entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. Your file never leaves your device, there is no upload wait, and there is no file size limit imposed by a server.

When saving as JPEG, the quality setting controls the tradeoff between file size and image fidelity. Quality 90+ is near-lossless for most images. Quality 75-85 is the typical web sweet spot, producing files that are 60-70% smaller than quality 100 with no visible degradation on normal screens. Quality below 60 begins to show blocking artifacts in smooth gradients, though it may be acceptable for thumbnails. Note that JPEG does not support transparency; any transparent areas in the source will be filled with white.

Upload your image file

Drop any supported image format onto the page. Accepted inputs include PNG, TIFF, BMP, WEBP, AVIF, HEIC, and many others.

Set the JPEG quality

Adjust the quality slider from 1 to 100. For photos, 85 is a good default. For line art or screenshots, 95 or higher preserves sharp edges.

Convert in your browser

The WebAssembly engine decodes your file and encodes a new JPEG locally. No data is sent anywhere.

Download the JPEG

Save the output. The file size will be shown so you can judge whether to adjust quality before downloading.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between JPEG and JPG?

None. JPG is a shortened file extension for JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group). Both .jpeg and .jpg refer to the same format.

Does JPEG support transparency?

No. JPEG has no alpha channel. Transparent areas from PNG or other sources will be filled with white when saved as JPEG.

What quality setting should I use for web images?

Quality 80-85 is the standard for web use: good visual quality with a file size roughly 40-50% smaller than quality 100. For thumbnails, 70-75 is acceptable.

Can I convert RAW camera files to JPEG here?

Common RAW formats (CR2, NEF, ARW) require specialized decoders. Support depends on the format; check the accepted file types list for your specific camera format.

Is there a file size limit?

No server-side limit exists because processing is entirely local. Very large files (hundreds of megabytes) may take a few seconds on slower hardware.
