How to convert CR2 to JPG

CR2 is Canon's proprietary RAW image format used in Canon DSLR cameras up to around 2018. CR2 files capture all the data the camera sensor recorded, giving photographers maximum flexibility to adjust exposure, white balance, and color in post-processing. The tradeoff is that CR2 files are large (typically 20-30 MB each) and cannot be opened in most apps or shared online without conversion.

BoltConverter converts CR2 to JPG entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. Your RAW photos never leave your device, which matters when working with client work or personal photos. You can drop a batch of CR2 files onto the page and download all the JPGs in one go.

Select your CR2 files

Click the upload box or drag one or more CR2 files from your computer. Multiple files are supported.

Frequently asked questions

Are my RAW files uploaded to the internet?

No. BoltConverter runs the conversion entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. Your CR2 files never leave your device.

Does the converter work with all Canon CR2 cameras?

The converter supports CR2 files from most Canon DSLRs that used the CR2 format, including the Rebel series, 5D, 7D, and 6D lines. Newer Canon cameras use CR3, which is a different format.

Will the JPG have the same quality as the RAW?

JPG uses lossy compression, so some data from the RAW file is discarded. The resulting JPG will look identical for most viewing purposes but cannot be processed the way a RAW file can.

Is there a file size limit?

Because conversion runs locally in your browser, there is no server-side size limit. Very large files depend on available RAM in your browser.

Can I convert multiple CR2 files at once?

Yes. Select multiple CR2 files at the same time and all will be converted and available for download.
