How to convert 3GP to MP4
3GP is a video format designed for older mobile phones that needed to store video in very little space. The format was built on the MPEG-4 standard but with lower bitrates and limited resolution, which means 3GP files look fine on a small feature-phone screen but blocky or soft on modern displays. Converting to MP4 unlocks full compatibility with every current device and streaming platform.
BoltConverter sends your 3GP file to its conversion servers where FFmpeg re-encodes the stream into H.264 MP4. The audio and video tracks are preserved at their original quality and the process usually takes under a minute for typical mobile clips. After conversion the file is automatically deleted from the server.

Frequently asked questions
Why are 3GP files so small?
3GP was designed for 2G and 3G mobile networks where bandwidth was limited. Video is encoded at low bitrates and resolutions are often 176x144 or 320x240, which keeps file sizes tiny but also limits quality.
Will converting 3GP to MP4 improve the video quality?
No. Conversion cannot restore detail that was never recorded. The MP4 will have the same visual quality as the original 3GP but will play on far more devices and apps.
Is there a file size limit?
Yes, the maximum file size is 100 MB. Most 3GP clips from feature phones are well under this limit.
Are my files kept private?
Your file is uploaded only to process the conversion. BoltConverter deletes it from the server immediately after the download link is generated.
What devices will the converted MP4 play on?
H.264 MP4 files play on iPhones, Android phones, Windows, Mac, smart TVs, and virtually every streaming app. It is the most universally supported video format available.
